I've been going to MCA for 2 years and it is a pretty good school. The campus is VERY nice, even though the middle schoolers are squeezed into little modulars. (I'm a middle schooler) They're fixing that problem soon though! The school is in the process of building new classrooms, and they ask for donations to fund the building, but they do not force you to donate. Most of the teachers are VERY nice even though my classmates complain about them. (It's just what middle schoolers do) The only real problem is the people that attend the school. My classmates don't take the Word of God seriously, even though the teachers try to make it relevant, and we even have chapel services every Wednesday, which are great! But anyway, I have definitely grown spiritually at MCA and you should consider it of your looking for a Christain School in your area! I graduated from Metrolina in 2007. Since then I received my BA in English from UNC Greensboro and am currently finishing my MFA in Creative Writing at George Mason University. I am grateful for much of my experience at Metrolina. The staff (mostly) is kind and supportive and helpful. I had the BEST English teacher I've ever known, and one of the best people I've ever known as a mentor. I became very close to the faculty. Making friends was more difficult, which might sound strange coming from me as I was both the homecoming queen and prom queen my senior year. However, it was. There were many clicks at the school, and many students did not embrace those who weren't similar to the majority or hadn't been in the school since elementary school. However, I found my people eventually and developed strong friendships. The best lesson I learned was to just be myself and not try to impress (which is a cliche, I know). In terms of an academic education, I really feel like I missed out. The classes were not academically rigorous, nor did they teach me what I needed to be prepared for a public college education. I spent much time my Freshman year of undergrad trying to read and get caught up on the common knowledge many of my peers had from their high school educations. Yet, I must acknowledge that I am pleased with where I am now in terms of life and career and education, so, of course Metrolina must have taught me some valuable lessons even if not academically.
There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how much we love MCA! After having a terrible experience with another Christian School in the area, we were lead to MCA, and we cannot be happier! The teachers are very loving and supportive, as is all of the staff. My children have grown so much in their Faith in the two years they have been at MCA, and they become more Christ-like each day. The school is well-managed academically, spiritually, and financially. MCA has been such a blessing to my family!!! All the sacrifice we have made to be able to send our children there is well worth it!!!
My daughter has been at MCA since she was 18 months old and she is now 9. Our daughter LOVES her school and the teachers and students there are like family to us. My husband and I are very grateful to have a school like MCA in our area that provides quality education with an emphasis on Christian principles and teachings. Mr. Calloway and his staff are such a blessing to our community and any family considering private education should visit MCA. Highly recommend Metrolina Christian Academy!
